Pr Ozturk will present the role of BRCA1 in chemoresistance of liver cancer cells, during the Targeting Liver Diseases World Congress 2015
The role of BRCA1 in chemoresistance of liver cancer cells will be the focus of Pr Ozturk, during the Targeting Liver Diseases World Congress 2015 held in Malta between 25-26th June 2015.
"Based on our comparative analysis of senescent and immortal liver cancer cells, we discovered that genes involved in double strand break repair genes
, including BRCA1 gene are overexpressed in immortal and malignant hepatocellular carcinoma cells. This was associated with increased chemoresistance.
We show that such chemoresistance can be overcomed by partial inhibition of BRCA1 expression. Thus, HCC chemoresistance is associated with increased DNA repair gene expression that can be reversed by targeting genes such as BRCA1."
